Online Directory
of Programs and Services
The Maine Office of Substance Abuse provides the Online Directory of Programs
and Services, a searchable directory of Maine licensed treatment agencies,
contracted prevention services, and Driver Education and Evaluation Program
providers.

U.S. DOT Substance
Abuse Professionals (S.A.P.s)
If you have an employee who has violated Federal DOT regulations
(49CFR Part 40) and is in need of a qualified Substance Abuse Professional
(SAP), the providers listed report that they have met the qualifications
of the DOT regulations. In order to qualify as a SAP, providers must meet
training and testing requirements outlined by DOT.
The Maine Office of Substance Abuse WorkAlert site offers workplaces a step by step guide to developing a substance abuse policy for the workplace:

The Maine Department
of Labor is a great resource for employees and employers
and lists information on all their services and links to partner agencies.

Bureau of Labor Standards
Any employer who wants to have a substance abuse testing program (but is
not required to under federal law) must submit a policy to the Maine
Bureau of Labor Standards (BLS),
Wage and Hour Division for
review and approval. A
model
substance abuse testing policy to help employers develop an acceptable
policy is available on the BLS, Wage and Hour Division website. For assistance

- Substance
Abuse Testing Report
This publication lists companies with approved policies, laboratories
approved to do testing, certified employee assistance programs and the
results of the tests performed. The Substance Abuse Testing Report does
not reflect activities under Federally mandated testing programs.
Maine Department
of Health and Human Services, Office of Licensing and Certification
- Employee Assistance Programs (EAPs) is responsible
for overseeing EAP licensing/certification. This website provides
information and forms for the EAP licensing/certification application
process; regulations for EAPs for employers operationg in Maine;
information about alcohol and drug testing in the workplace; and
guidelines for annual evaluation of EAPs.
Good Work! Resource KIT was developed by the Healthy Maine Parnterships, a program of the Department of Health and Human Services, Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. The Good Work! Resource Kit was created for use by workplace wellness teams, human
resources professionals, and other personnel interested in developing low-cost
ways to support employee health and productivity. The Maine Office of Substance Abuse has developed and added a new Drug Free Workplace section covering Substance Abuse Prevention and the Workplace.
The Maine District Office
of the U.S. Small Business Administration is responsible
for the delivery of SBA's many programs and services to all 16 counties
in the State of Maine. As an independent agency of the federal government,
the SBA serves to aid, counsel, assist and protect the interests of
small business concerns; to preserve free competitive enterprise; and
to maintain and strengthen the overall economy of the Nation. The SBA
provides contracts to the Small Business Development Centers to provide
information and assistance to small businesses with respect to establishing
Drug Free Work Place programs. For more information about Drug Free

Maine Small Business
Development Centers (Maine SBDCs) provide comprehensive
business management assistance, training, resource and information
services to Maine's micro, small and technology-based business communities.
The focus of the Maine SBDC is to assist in the creation and maintenance
of viable micro, small and technology-based businesses and the jobs
these businesses provide.

- GetFit! takes
the messages of prevention, early intervention, and treatment and
provides them in an overall strategy for health, wellness, and safety
in the workplace. Businesses of any size from any industry
can link to us or customize their own version of GetFit through an
easy, step-by-step online process. Organizations can select graphics,
display a corporate logo, and offer valuable company-specific information-contacts,
policies, programs, services, resources, and benefits information-all
in one centralized At Work section of the Web site.
Working
Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace is
a U.S. Department of Labor initiative that raises awareness about
the impact drugs and alcohol have on the workplace and provides
information on how to establish drug-free workplace programs that
protect worker safety and health. Working Partners strives
to build a drug-free workforce by equipping businesses and communities
with tools and information to effectively address drug and alcohol
problems. This site has many valuable tools ranging from the Substance Abuse Information Database to the Drug
Free Workplace Advisor, an online tool to assist in the development
of Drug Free Workplace Programs.
The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP),
a component of the Executive Office of the President, was established
by the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988. The principal purpose of ONDCP
is to establish policies, priorities, and objectives for the Nation's
drug control program. The goals of the program are to reduce illicit
drug use, manufacturing, and trafficking, drug-related crime and violence,
and drug-related health consequences. ONDCP has a Drug-Free
Workplace website that has information on demographics, research
findings, successes and challenges, healthcare costs, and resources.
The National
Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign offers employers free youth
drug prevention resources for parents at work through the "Parents.
The Anti Drug" website. When children use illicit drugs, parents often
suffer decreased morale and productivity in their workplaces. This
Web site was developed to help alleviate those problems. Through this
free and simple to use site, employers (and employees) learn how to
integrate information into Web pages, intranets and other communication
channels, such as employee newsletters.
U.S. Department of Transportation Office of Drug and Alcohol Policy
and Compliance was established by the Secretary
of Transportation to develop policy, provide guidance and offer
consultation on drug and alcohol issues within the transportation
industry to the Secretary, DOT's Operating Administrations, the
transportation industry, and other Federal Executive Agencies.
Ensuring
Solutions to Alcohol Problems
(Ensuring Solutions) at
the George Washington University Medical Center seeks to increase
access to treatment for individuals with alcohol problems. Working
with policymakers, employers and concerned citizens, Ensuring Solutions
provides research-based information and tools to help curb the avoidable
health care and other costs associated with alcohol use and improve
access to treatment for Americans who need it. One tool is
the
Alcohol Cost
Calculator that will compute just how much alcohol is costing
your business.
International Resources
Substance Abuse and Tobacco
in the Workplace Database of the International Labor Organization
The database includes descriptions of journal articles, books, government
documents, reports, kits, training materials, and evaluations. A descriptive
abstract is provided for each record, along with ordering information, or
a link to full text on the Web, if available.
